The Gunflint Mail Run Sled Dog Race is a continuous race consisting of two legs of equal distance, separated by a mandatory layover. There are two classes in 2017: a 12-dog, 100-mile race and an 8-dog, 65-mile race. It is being held in Cook County, Minnesota.

We did our snow dances, our snow prayers and our snow meditations. We begged and pleaded for cold weather. We even planned two possible routes.

Based on the current weather conditions, it looks like all of that worked. Here’s the map of the routes for both the eight-dog and 12-dog races. And for those familiar with the area, you can see that there are a few challenging hills along the way. It’s going to be a great race!
